Communities In Schools is the nation’s leading community-based organization helping kids succeed in school and prepare for life.  In Cumberland County, CIS is the only local non-profit that works closely with Cumberland County Schools, higher education, government, business and community partners to support student success- and teachers, too. Through a school based coordinator, Communities In Schools connects students and their families to critical community resources, tailored to local needs. By providing students with a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult, we create a safe place to learn and grow, a healthy start to a healthy future, a path toward marketable skills upon graduation and a chance to give back to peers and the community.

Nationwide, Communities In Schools has nearly 42,000 volunteers on the ground, working in more than 2,299 K-12 public schools in the most challenged communities in 26 states and the District of Columbia, serving 1.3 million young people and their families each year. Locally, we serve more than 8,000 students with dedicated site staff in the 71stAttendance area.
